Mono no Aware is an electronic music record described by the artist as: “a deep dive into void and confusion, an attempt to understand the complexity of love and hate, a way to crystallize moments in time and accept that what thrives must decay”.
Starting from this concept and from the need to explore new directions for music the artist developed a VR music app, a sonic and visual experience giving the user the possibility of losing himself in an infinite void only populated by crystallized sonic artifacts. Exploring space through the sounds from the record, users could either find a way out or get lost in the void.
The artist focus has always been on electronic music and its intersection with new technologies and visual arts.
His work explores the relationship between sonic and visual perception aiming at expanding the boundaries of musical experience beyond conventional formats.
In his debut record, Sadly by Your side (2013), he explored the connection between physical and digital format, now he’s attempting to give a glimpse of a possible future for music listening where records are a totally immersive experiences and the path through a soundscape is a listener decision.
The record, produced in London during the last 6 months of 2015, is a deep electronic exploration of a nightly and blurry futuristic soundscape inspired by the city itself. Sonically, it mixes down and upbeat rhythmic stabs with wide, melodic, raptures creating a diversified patch of sonic emotions and feelings.
*The app*
The app, from concept to development, is by Davide Cairo (Edisonnoside) in collaboration with Art Director Stefano Ottaviano.
Starting from the cover art abstractions, by Cecilia Cairo, they created an environment that mirrors the sensations originating the music, combining them into an explorable virtual space.
This combined with 3D sound activates a multi-sensory experience where music is the driving force for the exploration of the app’s surreal world.
The viewer, at his choice, is lead to 4 different gates that can allow escape from the confusion of the initial void and through a safe, guided experience of the individual songs. The first tracks available through the app are Moonskin and Redline, with more to come in future updates.
The Project has been partially funded by an Indiegogo Campaign in June 2016.
The App will be available in free download on Google Play Store
